2020 Season Begins!

Dear Prospective Leon Tennis Players,

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about the upcoming season which officially  begins tomorrow - Tuesday, January 21.

In order to step on the courts tomorrow, however, I will need all your necessary paperwork, which foremost includes a physical (form EL2). If you're not sure which paperwork needs to be completed, you can pick up a packet in the attendance office or download the forms at our new website - leonhighschooltennis.com

After tomorrow's first-day tryout session, we will begin our traditional double-elimination tournament and ensuing ladder play on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, the seventh-period tennis class will practice, as normal, from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

At 3 p.m., we will have a newcomers tryout. In addition, any returning varsity and junior varsity players must make me aware of their intention to play at that time so that I may place them in the double-elimination tournament which will begin promptly at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The entire 2020 tennis calendar is available on our website: which again it is now leonhighschooltennis.com

Please be advised of the commitment you are about to undertake.

It is my privilege, not my right, to be the Leon tennis coach. I'm extremely grateful to be your coach.

I "get" to do this. And I am ALL IN. My commitment to you all is of utmost importance.

I expect the same commitment from you moving forward as we make memories and enjoy the greatest lifetime sport on this planet.

It will be extremely important to watch the website and the Leon High School tennis "GroupMe" each night to know when you are playing the following day.

Players that do not show up for their matches on time will be defaulted. Players who do not have the necessary paperwork will not be allowed to participate.

And all I want for everyone is to enjoy and play.

My dad, who was my high school coach, will turn 88 next Monday. The highlight of his week is playing tennis each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Forestmeadows with the "Golden Boys."

A recent Mayo Clinic study revealed tennis is the healthiest sport you can play - adding an average of nine years to your life due to its inherent social qualities as well as the stress-recovery cadence of the game.

Your high school tennis experience will only come once.

My intent is to make it memorable and rewarding, just as my dad did for me and I did for my two sons - Kyle and Josh.

I get it.

Now, let's do this.

See you at the courts.

All In,

Coach Record

P.S. - I'd like to give a big shout out to John Kenny who is taking over the Leon High School tennis website and who has created a Leon High School Instagram account.

If you want pictures on the Instagram account, you must first submit them to me for approval on the "GroupMe."

What's more, John Kenny and Vince Long were instrumental in encouraging us to hold a UTR event last weekend at Tom Brown Park, which ultimately raised over $1,000 for our program and, more importantly, brought together players of all ages, genders and abilities.

I'm a huge fan of the UTR concept and intend on incorporating it into the Leon tennis culture as much as possible with the intent of growing the game for everyone.
